The Mystery of the Southwest

A different workshop,
with emphasis on photography - not on mere camera operation.

Most workshops are about technique.
This one is not, although you will get answers to all your technical questions.
Instead it is about seeing, understanding, and revealing what you feel
using photography as a creative medium.

This will happen through structured photo sessions in the morning,
and discussions, presentations and critiques every afternoon.

The workshop is conducted by Per Volquartz, Ronnie Layden,
and Linda Craig.

What you may photograph:

• Aspens in full color
• St. Francis Cathedral Basilica
• Native American Artisan Model working in a natural setting
• Bandelier National Monument
• El Santuario de Chimayo

What you will learn:

• To observe and find the essence of a given scene
• To select the most effective lens / camera combination
to capture this essense
• Composition as it relates to subject matter / content
• To look at and analyze a photographic print

In addition you will have 3 separate individual portfolio reviews
(by Per Volquartz - photographer,
Ronnie Layden - photographer / gallery owner,
and Linda Craig -photographer’s rep)

Limited to 16 participants.
The workshop will feature morning photography in most locations and an afternoon at the St. Francis Basilica for optimum lighting conditions. Afternoons will feature (in informal group settings) topics such as composition, the creative process, the art of light and contrast, graphic lines and shapes, and individual portfolio assessment (from each of the workshop instructors) - along with marketing strategies.
At night, it will be possible to process 4x5 and 5x7 film in a Jobo Expert drum, as well as 35mm and roll film (in steel tanks). All chemistry (Pyro Rollo – TF-4 fix) will be supplied at no extra cost!
